What is an AHSS Student Ambassador?
AHSS Student Ambassadors are current students who act as a link between the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the outside community. They use their own experiences to give people interested in university life an idea of what it is like to be a student at the University of Limerick. Student Ambassadors are volunteers - all hours volunteered count towards your President's Volunteer Award. Typically, AHSS Student Ambassadors are:
- Students who want to create a sense of community among students, staff, faculty and prospective students
- Students who can share first-hand information about their UL experience
- Students who are interested in writing, content-creation and using social media as a communication tool
What does a Student Ambassador do?
No one knows what it's like to live and study in UL better than our students. Your contributions are invaluable to us and help us communicate with prospective students as well as finding out more about you. Your main tasks would include:
- Write blog posts about life in UL, and/or create vlogs on our student blog.
- 'Take over' our Social Media (You would be given access to our Twitter/Instagram/Snapchat (ULarts) accounts for a week in the semester. You should post at least 5 times a day, and also engage with current and prospective students online).
We also have the occasional additional assignment which you can choose to take part in. These include:
- Chatting to prospective students at Open Days. We have found that school students are often more comfortable talking to our students than our Faculty, so any help you can offer at events such as Open Days is fantastic.
- Take part in promotional photo and video shoots
- Engaging with prospective students at on-campus events
Provide biographies and quotes for our online and print prospectuses

- Once you complete your time as a Student Ambassador you will receive a certificate of participation and a letter of recommendation from the Dean for your contribution to the Faculty and University.
What is the President's Volunteer Award?
The President's Volunteer Award (PVA) was established to harness, acknowledge and support the contribution that students at the University of Limerick make to their communities. The PVA draws on a strong tradition of student volunteering both on and off campus. The primary goals of the PVA are:
- Sustain and foster a culture of volunteering, active citizenship and civic engagement amongst the student population.
- Develop collaborative projects as well as furthering existing initiatives between UL and our communities.
- Formally acknowledge and support the contribution that UL student volunteers make to our communities.
- Promote the development of civic and leadership skills amongst students.

Will being an Ambassador interfere with my University lectures or assignments?
Not at all. Your University work should always come first. We ask for you to commit to a few tasks (see section above for commitments) and you can choose if you take on additional assignments such as attending Open Days/on campus events or extra blog posts.
You must be studying an Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences course in UL. We accept applications from Undergraduate, Postgraduate and International students, from all years of study.
Reliability: If you offer to help with an event you are expected to turn up and be on time. If you have any problems attending or running late, let the member of staff who is organising your activity know. Likewise, if you are struggling to meet a deadline, please let us know.
Professionalism: Student Ambassadors represent the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, so we expect you to take your role seriously.
Communication: Be polite and friendly at all times in person and on our blog/social media, we want you to engage with the people you meet. We expect you to respect different opinions and be sensitive to different cultures.
Influence: As a Student Ambassador you are the face of the University and as part of this role, you will relay information about your UL experience to prospective students. You will be highly influential in decisions that have a big impact on the University including a student's decision to study with us.
